Want to make a difference in Greek Life?
The InterFraternity Council

The Inter-Fraternity Council is an organization designed for leadership and camaraderie between fraternities across North America. This council consists of 68 mens fraternities and over 5,500 chapters on the North American continent. IFC is a great way for fraternity members to communicate with school administrators. This communication is not only for fraternal issues, but it can also lead to future networking. W&J is one of the many institutions who has accepted the IFC, and allowed them to become the leaders of the Fraternal Greek Life on its campus. There are currently six fraternities involved in IFC at W&J, and they are listed below:
- Alpha Tau Omega
- Beta Theta Pi
- Delta Tau Delta
- Phi Delta Theta
- Phi Gamma Delta
- Phi Kappa Psi
The IFC organization currently meets every Monday night at 6:30. Meetings are open to all Greek members, and they are welcome to discuss any problems or future plans to improve Greek Life. The leadership of the IFC consists of an elected group of volunteers from each respective chapter. Also helping lead this organization is Director of Greek Life Valerie Gregor and Associate Dean of Student Life Gerald Stebbins. The IFC mainly consists of an IFC Representative and the President or Vice President of each fraternity.
The IFC works hand and hand not only with the school and surrounding communities, but also with the Pan-Hellenic Council, which is the Sorority counterpart to the IFC. These two groups make it possible for fraternities to hold events such as Greek Week, and Recruitment. They also make sure each member of the fraternities completes their share of community service.
If you are interested in being a member of the IFC, you must currently be involved with any one of the six Greek Fraternities previously listed. If you have any other questions about getting involved in the IFC, contact your Representative or President. Or, you could stop by the meetings on Mondays. Below are a few other Resources that can be used to contact the IFC.
IFC: The Down Low
A lot of students believe that IFC is just in charge of punishing fraternities and does nothing else for Greek Life. IFC and the Pan-Hellenic Council are currently in charge of setting up one of the largest events of the year. Greek Week is an event that is designated to introduce prospective freshman to Greek Life. These events involve the six fraternities and the four sororities on campus.
Greek week events consist of the numerous challenges and other events between all of the Greek Life. Events consist of food competitions, dancing and other events. IFC is in charge of putting these events together, and also raising the money to take care of these events. One of these events is these is a human pyramid, a race between fraternities and sororities. This race consists of building a human pyramid(cheerleader type) and the first person to the top has to say the Greek alphabet.
This is just a small part of what organizations such as of IFC can do for the W&J community. Along with Greek Week they also plan recruiting events, help with the Spring Concert and numerous community service functions.
From an interview conducted with Paul Kramer '08, on April 13, 2007.
Coming out of Stuebenville, Ohio I was not too sure what to expect when I first landed at W&J. My decision to come to W&J was based on it being close enough to home and it had a great reputation especially for Medical School. I decided to test out the Greek system because I was unaware of what to expect from college and also wanted to meet new people. In the Fall of 2005 I joined Phi Delta Theta and I am currently the secretary there. Joining Greek life was one of the best decisions that I have ever made and being part of the system has been a great choice.
I was never involved in IFC until recently when I had to attend meetings due to a change that made it so each chapter has to send a representative and a member from their respective Executive Board. At first I was not sure what to expect of the meetings but I was very impressed. These meetings are a great way for the fraternal community to unite and discuss all of the current issues of the college. It is also a great way for members of the fraternity to discuss their problems with the school's administrators. If you are interested in trying to make a difference in the fraternal community this is a very good way to make a statement. It is really easy to join, just show up on Monday's and explain your problems or ideas to the executive board.
