The purpose of this wiki is to give current and prospective students a brief description of what The Hub. It also gives a first person narrative, information about how to get involved and a few helpful links.

Bored? Well It's All Happenin' at The Hub!

So it's a Tuesday night and you're bored! You have no homework to do and there's nothing on TV. So what do you do? Duh! You go to The Hub! Located across from The Wellness Center, The Hub is a great place for fun with friends. The Hub includes rooms full of big screen tv's, lovesacs, and games. In the back of The Hub, there are four different rooms upstairs including the Fireplace Lounge, a student meeting room, the Cultural Exchange Room and a TV Lounge.

The Fireplace Lounge is a popular place to go to relax on campus. It includes a large couch, lovesacs,  a big screen tv with a dvd player, plenty of video game consoles, and of course a fireplace. There are also tables here where you can do some homework, but that doesn't happen too often at The Hub. When the tables are not being occupied, they can be turned into poker tables. The Fireplace Lounge is a great place to check out the X-Box and play some Madden with your friends or even hold a poker tournament. The TV Lounge includes a plasma TV with surround sound and a dvd player. The Hub offers over 100 movies, X-Box, Playstation 2 and Wii systems and games including guitar hero. The best part is this is all free of charge!

The Meeting Room is a great place to hold group meetings. Here, there is a free student copier, a computer, and basic office supplies. The Cultural Exchange Room is home to several programs on campus focused on multicultural education. All of these rooms can be reserved at your convenience. To reserve a room, fill out a form on The Hub webpage linked at the bottom of this page. Downstairs there's a student run diner called Monticello's Coffee House that offers free food on the weekends. There's also a game room full of numerous games to play. There's ping pong, pool, foosball and other sport equipment that you can check out such as corn hole and bocce ball. There's also a computer, a stereo system and pop machines. The intramural department holds pool and ping pong tournaments here.

The Hub is home to other activities as well. Every Sunday is Steeler Sunday where students can come in and enjoy some free refreshments while watching the game. Here is where you can also find comedy, karaoke, and game nights. During finals week, The Hub is turned into a stress free zone where you have the opportunity to make your own stress balls and even get chair massages!

The Hub also includes offices for the Student Activities Board, Intramural & Club Sports, Office of Student Activities and Student Government Association. The Student Activities Board helps to organize fun activities throughout campus that students can enjoy. The Intramural & Club Sports is where activities such as club hockey and rugby were born. The list of intramural sports is countless including everything from basketball to wallyball. The Student Government Association (SGA) is responsible for the fall and spring concerts as well as other events on campus. The SGA helps promote the interests of the student body. They also help to allocate funds to different student activities. Another interesting feature of The Hub is that it is full of student art work.

Monticello's

Monticello's is probably the most well-known part of The Hub. It is a diner that is completely run by students. As soon as you walk downstairs you're hit with the sound of loud music and chatter. As you make your way to the double doors there are at least twenty people socializing under the strobe lights. When you cross those doors you will find a handful of student volunteers behind the bar serving other students. Now, don't be confused. These workers aren't serving alcoholic beverages; they're serving milkshakes! They also have a variety of other drinks and foods as well. My personal favorite is pizza bites, but they also have soft pretzels with cheese, cookies, nacho's and other treats as well. It's a great place to hang out with old friends and a great opportunity to make new ones.

Every once in awhile, Monticello's will have a Karaoke night. This is when students take a break from the frat houses and travel over to sing their favorite tunes. On these nights the place is usually pretty crowded but it is very entertaining to see the hidden talents of fellow students. Every weekend you'll see the same familiar faces welcoming you in. Although the food and drinks are free they do accept tips so these good times can keep on rolling. The Hub is also stacked with various board games. Feel free to grab a seat and play a game of Yahtzee with your pals. But don't miss out! Monticello's is only open on the weekends from 9pm-12am.

Fireside Chat with Billie Eaves

Based on an interview with Billie Eaves

The Hub developed due to the fact that there just weren't enough spaces for students on campus, even from when I was a student here. There used to be the little space behind the mail room where there were pool tables but that space just wasn't big enough. We wanted a study-free zone where students could get away, be loud and release some stress. Some people come here in between classes and try to study but get angry when others are being loud. This a place where you're supposed to have fun; what are you going to do? We discourage studying in The Hub!

It took awhile to get it together but with a lot of help from the Student Government Association we finally got The Hub up and running. Thanks to them we have all the furnishing we need in The Hub. The ideas about the lovesacs and big screen tv's all came from them. We're now into our third year and we continue to develop.

The Hub is where all the great events around campus develop. The SAB comes up with great ideas such as Light Up Night and Fall Fest and has bought the grills and picnic tables for when we have movie nights out on the lawn. All of the offices collaborate to organize off campus trips such as the ones the New York City and Niagara Falls and the SGA is responsible for the fall and spring concerts every year.

Although it is not exactly what we expected, we are continuously generating ideas to make The Hub more attractive to a wide variety of students. We hope that in the future, The Hub will become more of a place to go during the week rather than just on the weekends. We also hope that the vacant rooms in The Hub will one day develop into theaters, multi-purpose rooms or one day even a pub!
