Welcome to the Office of Community Engagement!
At W&J, we aim to graduate responsible citizens "who are prepared to contribute substantially to the world in which they live." During their time at W&J, that part of the world where they can contribute is right here in Washington, PA. Our students strive to be a part of this community and have a deep desire to connect in a meaningful way with the numerous community partners and agencies in Washington, PA and the surrounding area. Our faculty, staff and students hope to help those partners accomplish their goals and meet the needs of the community.
Would you like to partner with the W&J Office of Community Engagement?
Community agencies can partner in many ways:
- General Volunteers - If you, as an agency representative, are in need of volunteers, you can begin by filling out a volunteer request. Upon completing the form, you will be contacted by the Director of Community Engagement and added to the volunteer database.
- Service Days - W&J has multiple events throughout the year where larger groups of students volunteer. These are usually large, one day events (very often on weekends) such as our W&J Day of Service or MLK Day of Service, or collections of events throughout a single week, such as AmeriCorps Week, National Volunteer Week, etc. In the past, community partners have utilized these large groups of students to help them with larger projects, such as fall cleanings, painting, planting, etc. However, students do a multitude of projects during these events. If your organization would like to be considered for one of these events, please email email@example.com.
- Student Connections - Above all else, the Office of Community Engagement can help you create relationships with groups of students or individual students. If your organization is in need of steady volunteers, the best thing that you can do is find a group of regular students. The Office of Community Engagement is happy to connect community partners with service organizations, class groups, fraternities, sororities, sports teams, etc. to help you agency have a base of regular student volunteers which you can contact directly. Also, our individual students are able to request to volunteer within specific areas. Once they make that request, they are given information about agencies within that area. If you are in our database and they reach out to you, even if you do not have a project for them at that time, we highly encourage you to keep them connected in some way, or keep their information for projects down the road!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us! We look forward to working with you and creating a partnership to strengthen our community!
