 The ELI Mission Statement

The mission of the English Language Institute (ELI) at W&J College is to provide state-of-the-art instruction in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and the academic preparedness necessary for students to enroll in an American institution of higher education at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Highlights of our program include full integration in campus life, intense study of English and its application in an academic environment, and course content intended to enrich knowledge of American culture. Course of study in the ELI will enable students to better navigate the expectations of students pursuing a high-quality liberal arts education, to develop lifelong language learning skills, and to participate in an engaged and diverse community

  • To promote exceptionally motivated English language learners who are able to use critical thinking skills in order to be successful and achieve personal, academic and professional goals.
  • To empower our students with the academic preparedness and knowledge to make a successful transition to mainstream academic courses.
  • To maximize our students’ access to the W&J educational, cultural, and community resources to create a holistic American college experience.
  • To provide our students and the W&J community with opportunities for cross-cultural learning experiences that foster mutual understanding
